Kanishka Raja
Kanishka Raja is an Indian-born contemporary artist who currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He was born in Kolkata, India in 1970, and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda, India, in 1991. He then went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island in 1994.
Raja's work is heavily influenced by his cultural background and explores themes of migration, diaspora, and globalization. He uses a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, and installation, and often incorporates found objects and imagery from popular culture into his work.
His work has been exhibited internationally in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Asia Society, and the Queens Museum of Art in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Singapore Art Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Shanghai.
Raja is also a faculty member at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he teaches painting and drawing.
