Josef Sudek
Josef Sudek was a Czech photographer, best known for his poetic and melancholic images of Prague and the Czech landscape. Sudek lost his right arm during World War I, but this did not prevent him from pursuing his passion for photography. He studied photography in Prague and became a member of the Czech Photographic Society in 1924. His early work was influenced by the pictorialist style, but he later developed his own unique style, characterized by his use of light, shadow, and texture to create atmospheric and haunting images. Sudek is best known for his photographs of Prague, which capture the city's unique atmosphere and sense of history. He was particularly interested in photographing its old buildings and monuments, many of which were later destroyed during World War II or demolished during the Communist era. He also photographed the Czech countryside, creating images that convey a sense of tranquility and timelessness.
