Biography of Janice Kerbel
Janice Kerbel was born in 1969 in Toronto, Canada. She completed her education at Goldsmiths College, graduating in 1996.
Kerbel has been recognized for her contributions to the art world, notably winning the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for artists in 2011. She serves as a Reader in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London. In 2015, she was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize, sharing the nomination with Bonnie Camplin, Nicole Wermers, and Assemble.
She explores various mediums, including light, audio recordings, performance, and printed materials. One example of her printed work was commissioned by the Liverpool Biennial in 2018.
Kerbel's work has been showcased in various notable exhibitions. Her recent solo exhibitions and performances include "Speech, Fight" at greengrassi in London (2023), "Speech! Fight! Speech! Fight!" at Catriona Jeffries in Vancouver (2022), "Sinkfight" at i8 Gallery in Reykjavik (2019), "Aslan Gaisumov & Janice Kerbel" at Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre in Bury (2019), and many more.
