Elizabeth McIntosh
Elizabeth McIntosh is a Canadian painter known for her vibrant, large-scale works that explore themes of gender, identity, and the complexities of contemporary life. Born in 1967 in Simcoe, Ontario, McIntosh received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1991 and her Master of Fine Arts from Chelsea College of Art and Design in London in 1995.
McIntosh's works are often characterized by bold, gestural brushstrokes and intense use of color. Her paintings incorporate a range of influences, from contemporary pop culture to the history of painting. Many of her works feature figures, often women, in various states of motion or repose, sometimes incorporating elements of abstraction or surrealism.
