Elijah Burgher
Elijah Burgher is an American artist known for his intricate, occult-inspired drawings and paintings. He was born in 1978 in Kingston, New York, and currently lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. Burgher's work often features intricate geometric patterns, symbols, and sigils, drawing on a range of esoteric and spiritual traditions, including tantra, alchemy, and queer magic. His artwork is often characterized by a sense of ritual, with the act of creation serving as a means of channeling and exploring the unseen and the unknown. Burgher has exhibited his work in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe, and his artwork is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others. In addition to his studio practice, Burgher is also a co-founder of the queer artist-run space, Julius Caesar, in Chicago.
