Katharine Kuharic

Katharine Kuharic is an American artist known for her politically charged paintings and mixed media works that explore themes of gender, power, and identity. She was born in 1951 in New York City and currently lives and works in the Hudson Valley region of New York State. Kuharic's work often incorporates found objects and materials, such as discarded political signs and other ephemera, which she uses to create complex, multi-layered compositions. Her paintings frequently feature strong female figures, often depicted in confrontational or assertive poses, and often incorporate text or other symbolic elements. Kuharic's work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States, and she has received numerous awards and fellowships, including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting. In addition to her studio practice, Kuharic is also an accomplished art educator, having taught at a number of institutions including the School of Visual Arts and the New York Academy of Art.
