Edi Hila
Edi Hila was born on 13th October 1944 in Shkodër, Albania and currently resides and works in Tirana, Albania. As a significant figure in the Balkan arts scene, Hila's work over the last two decades has documented the transformative changes experienced by societies in post-communist Europe. Despite the lure of economic prosperity elsewhere, Hila chose to remain in Tirana, where his practice reflects on the transience of Albanian history, situated between the east and west, and the role of Albanian painting in the larger Mediterranean art history.
Hila has exhibited extensively internationally, including at the Venice Biennale (1999), "After the Wall" at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm (1999), the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin and the Ludvig Museum in Budapest (2000), "Blood and Honey - The Future's Balkan" curated by Harald Szeeman at the Essl Museum in Vienna (2003), and the Liverpool Biennale (2010). His works have recently been acquired by esteemed collections such as the Musée d'art Moderne Centre Pompidou, FRAC Pays de la Loire, and the Fonds Municipal of the Ville de Paris.
