David Shrigley

Biography of David Shrigley
David Shrigley was born in 1968 in Macclesfield, UK. He currently lives and works in the UK. Shrigley studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland from 1988 to 1991.
Shrigley has received international acclaim and critical recognition for his work, with solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as Spiritmuseum in Stockholm, Deste Foundation Project Space in Hydra, Power Station of Art & Design in Shanghai, and the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne. His public exhibition with the Public Art Fund in Central Park, New York, and his installation at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, further cemented his reputation.
In 2013, Shrigley was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize following his major mid-career retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in London. Notably, in 2016, Shrigley's seven-meter-tall "thumbs up" sculpture was unveiled in Trafalgar Square as part of the Fourth Plinth Commission.
In 2018, he was appointed Guest Director of the Brighton Festival. In 2020, Shrigley was awarded an OBE for services to Visual Arts in The Queen's New Year's Honours list.
In the spring of 2021, Shrigley opened Shrig Shop in Copenhagen with his long-term gallerist and friend Nicolai Wallner, producing limited editions and other art-related items as an extension of his artistic practice.
