Ahmed Farid's Art Style
Despite his lack of formal training, Farid's paintings reflect a rich tapestry of experiences and influences drawn from his diverse background.
Initially educated in social sciences, Farid embarked on a career in marketing communication and business before discovering his passion for painting during extensive travels in the early 1970s. Immersed in the cultural upheavals of the era, including the European post-May 1968 movement and the American summer of love, Farid's artistic sensibilities were shaped by both local Egyptian dynamics and international currents.
Although his artistic aspirations simmered for years, it wasn't until 2003 that Farid fully committed himself to painting. With each brushstroke, Farid's distinctive style emerged, characterized by an obsession with textures and thick pastes of paint. His canvases often evoke the spirit of Egyptian abstract expressionist Gazebia Sirry and European expressionist Nicholas de Stael, while also displaying a visual affinity for American color field painting.
