Zineb Sedira

Initially drawing inspiration from her own identity and personal geography as a woman, Zineb Sedira gradually transitioned towards exploring more universal themes of mobility, memory, and transmission.

With a career spanning over fifteen years, Sedira has not only enriched the discourse surrounding modernism and modernity but has also elevated the conversation on artistic expression and the contemporary experience in North Africa.

Biography of Zineb Sedira

Zineb Sedira, born in 1963 in Paris, emerges as a seminal figure in the contemporary art landscape. 

Sedira's educational background includes studies at the Royal College of Art in London and the Slade School of Art Central Saint Martins School of Art, where she honed her skills and developed her distinctive artistic voice. Throughout her career, she has collaborated closely with institutions and galleries, including her longstanding partnership with Kamel Mennour since 2002.

She established aria (artist residency in Algiers), a program aimed at fostering the growth of Algeria's contemporary art scene through international cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations.

Zineb Sedira represented France at the 59th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in 2022. Her exhibition, "Dreams Have No Titles," showcased in the French Pavilion, received a special mention.

Her notable solo exhibitions include "Zineb Sedira, Standing Here Wondering Which Way to Go" at Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon (2022), "Maritime Tales: Between Land and Sea" at Selma Feriani Gallery in Tunis (2013), "Lighthouse in the Sea of Time" at Charles H. Scott Gallery in Vancouver (2013), "Beneath the Surface" at Galerie Kamel Mennour in Paris (2012), and many more. 

Zineb Sedira's artworks are featured in prestigious collections, including The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, Arts Council of England, Ernst and Young, FRAC Alsace, Mathaf - Arab Museum of Modern Art, among others.
