Biography of Vajiko Chachkhiani

Vajiko Chachkhiani was born in 1985 in Tbilisi, Georgia. From 2003 to 2004, he studied Mathematics and Informatics at Technical University in Tbilisi. Later, from 2008 to 2009, he attended Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where he studied in Audio Visual Departement. 

Additionally, from 2009 to 2013, Chachkhiani studied at Universität der Künste (UdK) in Berlin, where he attended the class of Prof. Gregor Schneider.

In 2017, Vajiko Chachkhiani's work "Living Dog Among Dead Lions" was exhibited at the Georgian Pavilion during the Venice Biennale. The installation featured a Georgian log cabin acquired from the mining town of Chiatura, filled with typical furniture and everyday objects. Over time, rain infiltrated the cabin, causing moss to grow inside and blurring the boundary between interior and exterior spaces.

In 2017, the artist was honored with the Rubens Promotional Award. His other accolades include a nomination for the Kunstpreis Böttcherstraße in 2018, as well as receiving the Villa Aurora Fellowship in Los Angeles and a Residency Grant in Tokyo during the same year.

His solo exhibitions include "Sky Above Town" at Kunstmuseum Brandts in Odense (2022), "Death Chase" at Daniel Marzona in Berlin (2020), "Flies bite, Its going to rain" at Yarat contempoarary art center in Baku (2019), "Vajiko Chachkhiani – Films" at Berlinische Galerie in Berlin (2019), and many more.

Currently, the artist lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
