Biography of Aron Mehzion
Aron Mehzion was born in 1970 in Asmara, Eritrea. He left his home at the age of five after his father, a successful businessman, was murdered by the Derg regime in 1975. Mehzion's family fled to Germany, passing through Sudan, Egypt, and Italy.
After graduating from the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf, Mehzion attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1993 to 2000. He was a student of Michael Buthe, Jannis Kounellis, and Gerhard Merz.
Unable to sustain himself solely through art, Mehzion established his first bar, "Baron," in 2002. He opened the bar with an exhibition titled "hellgruen," transforming it into a "living space for artists."
The artist has showcased his works widely. His solo exhibitions include "parallélisme élémentaire" at Daniel Marzona in Berlin (2018) and "Inverresion" at Daniel Marzona in Berlin (2016).
Additionally, Aron Mehzion's works have been featured in numerous group shows, including "A Space full of Drawings and a Drawing in Space" at Daniel Marzona in Berlin (2020), "Four Rooms with a View" at Galerija Vartai in Vilnius, (2018), "Aux amis / for friends – works from the collection Féraud" at Fonds M-ARCO / Le Box in Marseille (2017), "Schaf und Ruder / Wool and Water" at Kunsthalle Dusseldorf (2016), among others.
