Tom Friedman
Tom Friedman was born in 1965 in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA and currently resides and works in Northampton, Massachusetts. His artworks fluctuate between the comical and conceptual, portraying random elements from his daily life and surroundings. He meticulously crafts drawings and sculptures, which may first appear simple and stable, but on closer inspection reveal intricate details and constructions made from unexpected materials such as flock, Styrofoam, wire, or even his own hair.
For more than two decades, he has explored the viewer/object relationship and "the space in between." His works have been showcased in solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Yerba Buena Museum of Art in San Francisco, Magasin 3 in Stockholm, Sweden, The New Museum in New York, and the Tel Aviv Art Museum. Friedman’s works are found in the collections of museums such as MoMA, Los Angeles Contemporary Art Museum, the Broad Art Museum, the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo.
