David Salle
David Salle is an American painter, printmaker, and stage designer who emerged in the 1980s as a leading figure of the postmodern art movement. Salle's work explores the intersection of different artistic styles and genres, often combining elements of figuration, abstraction, and appropriation.
Salle's paintings are characterized by their layered compositions, which often incorporate found imagery and fragments of popular culture alongside traditional art historical references. His works also frequently feature disjunctive juxtapositions of disparate elements, creating a sense of visual and conceptual ambiguity.
Salle has exhibited his work internationally, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He has also collaborated with numerous artists and writers, including Laurie Anderson, John Baldessari, and William Burroughs.
