Sophie Calle
Sophie Calle is a French conceptual artist born in 1953. She is best known for her provocative and often autobiographical work that blurs the boundaries between reality and fiction. Calle's work often involves the use of photography, text, and performance to explore themes such as identity, intimacy, and voyeurism. In one of her most well-known projects, "The Hotel", Calle worked as a chambermaid in a Venice hotel and documented the belongings and behaviors of the guests. Another notable work, "Exquisite Pain", explored her own heartbreak after a breakup through a series of photographs and texts. Calle has exhibited her work internationally and has received numerous awards, including the Hasselblad Award and the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize. She has also been commissioned to create works for public spaces, such as her project for the Louvre Museum in Paris, where she invited strangers to interpret a lost love letter.
