Sable Elyse Smith
Sable Elyse Smith is an interdisciplinary artist who works across a range of mediums, including video, sculpture, installation, and text. Her work often explores the intersection of race, class, and power in American society, drawing on her personal experiences as a Black woman.
In her art, Smith often uses found materials and objects that have cultural significance, such as vintage magazines and clothing, as well as text and language. Through her use of these materials, Smith interrogates the ways in which they have been used to reinforce oppressive power structures.
In her video work, Smith often uses performance and movement to explore themes of embodiment and the ways in which our bodies are shaped by social structures. She also frequently collaborates with other artists and activists in her work, creating a sense of collective resistance against oppressive systems.
