Biography of Whitney Bedford
Whitney Bedford is an artist originally from Baltimore, Maryland, but has spent most of her life residing in Los Angeles, near the beach.
In 1994, she studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. She earned her BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (1998) and her MA from the University of California, Los Angeles (2003). Bedford also studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and the Pont-Aven School of Art in 1996.
From 1998 to 2000, Whitney Bedford was a Fulbright Visiting Artist under Professor Wolfgang Petrick at Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin.
Whitney Bedford also has teaching experience. She served as a Visiting Artist at the Art Center College of Design, the University of California, the University of Nevada, and the University of Texas. Bedford also held positions as an Adjunct Professor at the University of California (2016-2017), the University of California (2018-2021), and Chapman University (2018-2023).
She was a UCLA Hammer Museum Drawing Biennial Winner in 2001. Whitney Bedford also received the Pollock Krasner Award in 2015.
Her recent solo exhibitions include "Whitney Bedford: Veduta" at Miles McEnery in New York (2023), "Imaginary" at Starkwhite in Auckland (2022), "Whitney Bedford: Greenhouse" at Vielmetter Los Angeles in Los Angeles (2021), and many more.
