Nick Brandt
Nick Brandt is a British photographer born in 1966, known for his powerful black and white images of African wildlife and landscapes. His photographs are noted for their intimate, emotional portrayal of animals and their habitats, as well as for their technical excellence and careful composition.
Brandt began his career as a music video director, working with artists such as Michael Jackson and Moby. In the late 1990s, he turned his attention to photography, initially focusing on portraits of people in India and Southeast Asia. However, he soon became fascinated with the wildlife of East Africa, and began to spend increasing amounts of time there, photographing the animals and their habitats.
Brandt's images often depict African animals in an almost human-like manner, capturing their emotions and personalities in a way that challenges the traditional portrayal of wildlife as passive objects. His photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines, and have been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the National Museum of Kenya, the Natural History Museum in London, and the Fahey/Klein Gallery in Los Angeles.
