Mohamed Bourouissa
Mohamed Bourouissa, born in 1978 in Blida (Algeria), currently resides and works in Paris (France). Through his photographs and videos, Bourouissa implicitly portrays contemporary society, with a critical approach towards mass media images and focusing on people who are often marginalized and excluded. Each of his projects is built on a lengthy period of immersion, creating new ways of representation that are complex and challenge simplified media constructions of hypervisibility margins. Since 2010, Bourouissa has been collaborating with Kamel Mennour.
Bourouissa's work has been showcased in numerous solo exhibitions at prestigious institutions such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, basis in Frankfurt am Main, Le Bal in Paris, Haus der Kunst in Munich, and the FRAC Franche-Comté in Besançon. He has also participated in several biennales such as Sydney, Sharjah, Havana, Lyon, Venice, Algiers, Liverpool, and Berlin, as well as the Milan Triennial. In 2018, he was a nominee for the Marcel Duchamp Prize, and in 2017, he was selected for the Pictet Prize. His works are part of significant collections, including LACMA, the Stedelijk Museum, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Istanbul Modern, and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris.
