Aaron Garber-Maikovska's Art Style

Aaron Garber-Maikovska challenges the confines of conventional painting, drawing significant inspiration from his somatic experiences to shape his creative process. The artist employs a range of techniques to craft abstract compositions characterized by rich textures and vibrant colors. Within his paintings, he constructs fields of color that seamlessly blend and interact, set against a backdrop of a single, continuous line.

The artist employs ink, oil stick, pastel, and acrylics to generate dynamic interplays of electric linework and geometric shapes. These creations may evoke the artistic styles of notable figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cy Twombly, and Willem de Kooning.

Colour is a very intuitive process for me. I index all the colours that I have made. So, I keep a robust library. I create groupings, working around colours creating variances and combinations. Flirting with some. But generally, the decisions start somewhere contrived and end up going somewhere else rather quickly. The studio is set up to maintain a certain clarity for the sake of spontaneous association.

Garber-Maikovska's painting approach is profoundly intuitive, as he surrenders himself to the flow of intuition, letting his impulses guide his hand. His fluted poly works materialize as a physical expression of his innermost thoughts and feelings, with each brushstroke embodying a gesture enriched with both personal and universal significance.
