Michael Loew
Michael Loew (1907-1985) was an American painter known for his contributions to the Abstract Expressionist movement. He was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1924.
Loew studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City and later worked as an assistant to muralist Diego Rivera in Mexico City. He returned to the United States in the late 1930s and began to develop his own artistic style, which combined elements of Cubism and Surrealism.
In the 1940s, Loew became associated with the Abstract Expressionist movement, which was characterized by a gestural and expressive approach to painting. He participated in many group exhibitions and was included in the landmark 1951 Ninth Street Show, which helped to establish Abstract Expressionism as a major artistic movement in the United States.
