Biography of Lyra Garcellano
Lyra Garcellano was born in 1972 in the Philippines. She was featured as one of the artists in the third installment of the BMW Young Artists Series. Garcellano holds two degrees: one in Fine Arts with a major in Painting from the University of the Philippines and another in Interdisciplinary Studies from Ateneo de Manila University.
In 2006, Lyra Garcellano received the Thirteen Artists Awards from the Cultural Center of the Philippines. In 2008, she was shortlisted for the Ateneo Art Awards. Her talent has also earned her prestigious artist residencies, including the Asian Cultural Council grant for Location One in New York City in 2010, the BMW Young Asian Artists residency in Singapore in 2011, the UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists in Yogyakarta in 2002, and the Gwangju Cultural Foundation residency in South Korea in 2012.
In 2013, Garcellano participated in her most recent residency at the National Art Studio, hosted by the National Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea.
