Kianja Strobert
Kianja Strobert's artistry challenges conventional notions of painting by using self-invented forms, materials, and images to explore the intersection of mark-making. Her use of vibrant colors and captivating imagery enables her pieces to oscillate between the utilitarian and aspirational values associated with painting, encapsulating within them the different artistic processes that define them.
Born in 1980, Kianja Strobert resides and works in Hudson, NY. She held a solo exhibition at ArtOMI in Ghent, New York in 2021. She has also had solo exhibitions at the Santa Monica Museum of Art, California (2012) and The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2014). She has participated in group exhibitions at the Olana State Historic Site, Hudson, New York (2015), Kemper Museum of Art in Kansas City (2017), and The Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston (2013). Kianja Strobert earned her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her MFA from Yale University.
