Hyon Gyon

Hyon Gyon is a contemporary artist from South Korea known for her vivid, expressive paintings and sculptures that combine elements of traditional Korean art with contemporary styles and techniques. Hyon Gyon was born in 1979 in the city of Hamyang in South Korea. She studied at the Mokwon University in Daejeon, South Korea and later earned an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Hyon Gyon's work often reflects her experiences as a woman and as an immigrant, and explores themes such as trauma, memory, and spirituality. She uses a variety of materials in her work, including acrylic paints, paper, fabric, and found objects, and her colorful, energetic compositions are characterized by their bold brushwork and expressive use of line and form.
