Hiro, a Japanese-American artist known by his mononymous name, was a renowned and influential commercial photographer who left an indelible mark on the fashion and editorial industry. With his keen eye for detail, innovative compositions, and ability to capture the essence of his subjects, Hiro became a sought-after photographer for esteemed magazines like Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and Rolling Stone.

In 1954, Hiro moved to New York City, where he started a career as Richard Avedon’s apprentice. Avedon, recognizing the exceptional talent of Hiro, introduced him to the legendary art director of Harper's Bazaar, Alexey Brodovitch.

Under Brodovitch's guidance, Hiro's skills flourished, and he quickly soared to remarkable heights within the industry. From 1956 onward, he worked closely with Brodovitch, absorbing his valuable insights and honing his craft. By 1963, Hiro achieved a significant milestone as he became the only photographer under contract at Harper’s Bazaar, a prestigious position he held for the following decade.
