Gavin Kenyon
Gavin Kenyon is an American sculptor and installation artist born in 1974 in Chicago, Illinois. He currently lives and works in New York City. Kenyon received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Oberlin College in Ohio, and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Columbia University in New York.
Kenyon’s work often explores themes of transformation, decay, and entropy. He works with a variety of materials, including plaster, bronze, found objects, and photography, to create sculptures and installations that reference the human body, architecture, and natural forms. Many of his works involve the manipulation of materials to create a sense of tension between form and substance.
Kenyon has exhibited his work extensively both nationally and internationally. He has had solo exhibitions at the Sculpture Center in New York, the Swiss Institute in New York, and the Blaffer Art Museum in Houston, among others. His work has also been included in group exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington D.C.
Kenyon has also taught sculpture and installation art at institutions such as Columbia University, New York University, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant.
