Franz Graf
Franz Graf is an Austrian contemporary artist who works in a range of media, including painting, drawing, and sculpture. Born in 1954 in Vienna, Graf studied at the University for Applied Arts Vienna in the 1970s and was teaching the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1997 until 2006.
Graf's work is characterized by its exploration of color and form, and often features geometric shapes and abstract compositions. His paintings and drawings are notable for their use of bold, saturated colors and intricate, repetitive patterns. Graf's use of bold, saturated colors is another key feature of his work, with his compositions often built around a single dominant hue or color scheme. The resulting works are visually striking and invite viewers to engage with the interplay of color and form.
While his work is primarily abstract, Graf's compositions often suggest an underlying sense of order or structure. Whether through the use of a grid-like pattern or a series of repeating shapes, his works create a sense of balance and harmony that is both visually appealing and conceptually engaging.
Graf has also worked as a curator and writer, and has published numerous essays and articles on contemporary art. He has been involved with the Viennese art scene since the 1980s, and has been a significant figure in the development of contemporary art in Austria.
