Dave Hardy was born in 1969. He earned a BA from Brown University (1992) and an MFA from the Yale School of Art (2004). Additionally, he attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2004.

In 2019, he was chosen as the inaugural Fellow in the RAIR Fellowship Residency program, supported by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Hardy's honors and grants include awards from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation (2018), the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (2018), the New York Foundation for the Arts (2017 and 2011), and Socrates Sculpture Park (2005).
