Bridget Smith

Bridget Smith is a visual artist who specializes in photography and video. Her work falls within the documentary genre, however, she captures places that exist as a form of fantasy and escapism. Smith is fascinated by the places people seek refuge in, in order to escape boredom, be transported or absorbed, places that blur the lines between reality and pretense.

Smith's photography captures the construction of fantasy and the architecture of entertainment, which often function to disconnect people from their daily lives and concerns. Since 2005, her practice has expanded to include both still and moving images that examine our struggle to feel connected, within society, the landscape, and the wider universe. Her photographs and videos often highlight the gap between one's imagination and reality, and the interplay between the two. Her work oscillates between objectivity and subjectivity, as well as between reality and illusion.
