Amel Bashier's Art Style

Amel Bashier's paintings draw inspiration from the wisdom and strength of her female ancestors, particularly those who persevered and fought for their rights. Their stories serve as both a source of vitality for her creative process and a reference point in comparing the ongoing struggle of the contemporary Sudanese women's rights movement.

She places great significance on femininity in her works, considering women as an endless wellspring of inspiration. She portrays them without prejudice, capturing a blend of emotions that includes strength and vulnerability, cruelty and compassion. The women depicted in her paintings epitomize the pinnacle of femininity, often evoking the essence of motherhood.

In her detailed pen and ink drawings and pointillist paintings, female figures reminiscent of ancient Nubian civilization gaze serenely at the viewer, surrounded by flora, birds, books, and trees.

She predominantly works with black and white in her paintings and drawings. Bashier meticulously applies thousands of tiny dots from the nib of her pen to construct a subtly solid composition.
