About A Kind Of Mensuration by Chen Wei

In "A Kind of Mensuration" (2007), one of Chen's early works, the artist references a widely reported suicide incident in Hangzhou at that time. The deceased individual was discovered with numerous calculations related to different debts.

"A Kind of Mensuration" represents a man seated on a suspended ladder, surrounded by numbers and calculations below him.

Beyond the Photography: The Art of Chen Wei

Chen Wei's photography embodies the spirit and style of a new generation of emerging Chinese artists born in the 1980s. These artists are less preoccupied with political history or overt social criticisms and more concerned with personal and intellectual freedoms, as well as the individual's place in today's modern and developed China.

Chen Wei's creative and contemplative approach involves the exploration and collection of numerous fragments from personal memories. He integrates these fragments with inspirations and objects from his childhood or imaginative fantasies, juxtaposing them with the realities of modern China.
