Biography of Tiago Mestre

Tiago Mestre was born in Portugal in 1978. He has carved a unique artistic path that traverses the realms of architecture and contemporary art. In 2001, Mestre earned his degree in architecture from the prestigious Lisbon School of Architecture, laying the foundation for his artistic exploration. 

Mestre's commitment to honing his artistic skills led him to participate in several notable educational programs. In 2008, he joined the MAUMAUS Independent Visual Art Studies Program, followed by the Ar.co Advanced Course in Painting in 2009, both based in Lisbon, Portugal. These experiences enriched his artistic repertoire and paved the way for his distinctive approach to creative expression.

In 2016, Mestre earned a Master's degree in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), solidifying his presence in the vibrant artistic community of São Paulo.

The artist showcased his art in solo exhibitions, including 'Empire' at LAMB Gallery (London, 2022), 'Smoke Gets in Your Eyes' at Kupfer Projects (London, 2019), and 'Noite. Inextinguível, Inexprimível Noite.' at Galeria Millan (São Paulo, 2017).

Tiago Mestre's Art Style

In 2014, he initiated the project "All the Things You Are," which was showcased at Kunsthalle São Paulo. Over a period of 21 days, he frequented the exhibition space, creating successive sculptures using the same material – clay. This process was shared with the public in real-time. His artistic approach is characterized by the editing of his work within presentation spaces, often reflecting his studio practice.

Using materials such as clay, bronze, plaster, and paint, his work embodies an ongoing interplay between the planned and the circumstantial, merging programmatic and spontaneous actions. This fundamental tension shapes the way Tiago Mestre approaches various techniques and forms of expression.
