K. M. Madhusudhanan was born in 1956 in Alappuzha, Kerala. He pursued his education in painting at Fine Arts College in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and later delved into print-making at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University of Baroda, Gujarat. 

The ideologies of Marxism and Buddhism have profoundly influenced Madhusudhanan's art. One of his notable installations, "The Logic of Disappearance - A Marx Archive," consisted of 90 charcoal drawings and was showcased at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale: 'Whorled Explorations' in 2014-15, curated by Jitish Kallat. Additionally, the series "Penal Colony" was exhibited at the Venice Biennale: 'All the World's Futures' in 2015, curated by Okwui Enwezor.

As a filmmaker, Madhusudhanan has created films in both English and various Indian regional languages, including two silent short fictions.
