Julien Nguyen

Born in 1990 in Washington, DC, Julien Nguyen currently resides and creates in Los Angeles. His art has been featured in the 2017 Whitney Biennial and has been exhibited in solo shows at renowned institutions including the Swiss Institute in New York, Kunstverein München in Munich, and the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati.

Nguyen's paintings blend art history, science fiction, and contemporary life into intricately detailed compositions. His approach to art-making is both retrospective and futuristic, as he references classical and biblical themes from art history while also envisioning speculative worlds and science fiction-inspired visuals, drawing inspiration from artists such as Fra Angelico and Jean Giraud. Nguyen frequently includes people he knows personally in his artwork, stating that "Reality occurs only in the intimacy of understanding and being understood."
