Felix De Clercq's Art Style
De Clercq's intimate and introverted art explores enduring themes of isolation, loneliness, and solitude through still lifes and portraits. Often depicted in a somber, subdued color palette, his works present brooding male figures within interior scenes that evoke a sense of detachment from the world.
His works' dark narratives are influenced by folklore and post-war literature, particularly drawing inspiration from the stories of Gerard Reve while also incorporating autobiographical elements and imagery from popular visual culture. His simplistic, flat style finds inspiration in Primitivist or Naive artists like the Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani.
