Dhruvi Acharya
Dhruvi Acharya was an Indian contemporary artist born in 1971 in Mumbai. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1994 and her Master's degree in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 1997.
Acharya's paintings are characterized by their bright colors and intricate patterns, often depicting surreal and dreamlike scenes. Her works are influenced by Indian folk art, street art, and popular culture. Acharya's subjects include animals, humans, and hybrid creatures that often seem to exist in a fantastical world of their own.
Acharya has exhibited her work extensively in India and abroad, including in solo exhibitions at the Thomas Erben Gallery in New York and Gallery Chemould in Mumbai. Her work is part of the permanent collections of several museums and institutions, including the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in New Delhi and the Queensland Art Gallery in Brisbane, Australia.
Tragically, Dhruvi Acharya passed away in 2020 at the age of 49 after a battle with cancer. Her vibrant and imaginative artwork continues to inspire and captivate audiences around the world.
