Contemporary Istanbul Bloom: A Focus on Emerging Art

CI Bloom, the fair’s initiative aimed at revitalizing Turkey's art scene, will present its third edition this year. It will take place at the ICEC Rumeli Halls, aligning with the main fair. CI Bloom kicked off its third edition with significant impact, hosting 24 contemporary art galleries, 5 institutions and initiatives, 267 artists, and 568 artworks. This year's event was marked by a notable attendance of over 25,000 visitors, with a strong emphasis on featuring young artists. This provided emerging talents with an important platform to showcase their work.

At the entrance of the Rumeli Halls, attendees encountered a striking three-dimensional artwork by Murat Tabanlıoğlu, reflecting natural shadow movements. In the realm of digital art, the “Living Things” production by DECOL offered an immersive experience, exploring the interaction between organic and artificial elements through interactive installations.

The fair also featured Universal Everything Studio's project "1000 Hands" for the first time in Turkey, an interactive drawing project evolving with the music's tones. LG OLED showcased works by Shepard Fairey, addressing contemporary societal issues through art presented on cutting-edge screens. Additionally, House of Brothers Lounge presented Lal Batman's "Blended Valley," combining video art, digital manipulation, and sculpture.

Contemporary Istanbul Foundation: Noteworthy Projects

Among the significant projects presented by the Contemporary Istanbul 2024:

  • CI Photo Focus: is a new platform dedicated to contemporary photography, overseen by Simone Klein. This project will showcase photography from 8 countries, featuring 22 international artists. The exhibition will include works from the Borusan Contemporary’s private photography collection, providing a comprehensive view of contemporary photographic practices.
  • "The Yard": is an open-air sculpture exhibition curated by Marc-Olivier Wahler, will explore the theme of "construction." It will feature artworks by artists such as Angela Ferreira and Mehmet Ali Uysal. It aims to transform industrial products into dynamic art pieces that interact with their environment.
  • Taviloğlu Collection: spans 52 years and features 2400 works, including 300 pieces by 157 international artists. This collection will be displayed across multiple venues in Istanbul, offering a comprehensive view of art history.
