Van Hanos was born in 1979 in Edison, NJ, USA. In 2001, he received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. Later, he continued his educational path, earning an MFA from the School of the Arts at Columbia University in New York in 2010.

Van Hanos gained critical acclaim through his participation in in Miami Beach in 2014. 

His recent solo exhibitions include "Van Hanos: Twin" at Lisson Gallery in London (2022), "Van Hanos: Conditional Bloom" at Lisson Gallery in New York (2021), "Interiors" at Château Shatto in Los Angeles (2020), and many more.
