Chen Sung-Chih

Chen Sung-Chih, born in 1978 in Taiwan, completed his studies with a degree from the Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts at Tainan National University of the Arts, specializing in mixed media installation.

Throughout the years, Chen Sung-Chih's artistic journey has taken him across borders and continents. He has had the privilege of participating in artist-in-residence programs and exchange initiatives in the USA, Korea, the UK, Egypt, France, and, of course, his home country, Taiwan.

Chen Sung-Chih's Art Style

At the heart of Chen Sung-Chih's artistry lies his ingenious use of ready-made objects. These commonplace materials, often overlooked in our day-to-day existence, undergo a transformation through his creative lens. He randomly assembles, combines, and shapes these objects to offer something distinct from their original raw and austere qualities. Consequently, these artistic endeavors infuse the pieces with warmth and intricate poetic significance.

Chen Sung-Chih's earlier works consistently revolved around this concept, employing the material's inherent language to bring forth the overlooked, sensitive aspects of life. His works are predominantly showcased through spatial installations, with large installations often mimicking common residential spaces. These installations ingeniously incorporate time-sensitive social events, revealing the powerful forces of rupture, destruction, and subtle collection, all drawn from real-life experiences.
